These are a few of my favorite things

Being overseas for the holiday season can be tough. I can't even imagine those expats that do it for years on end. This will be our second Christmas away from home and I'm already missing all of the games that will be played, the Christmas decorations spread throughout the house and don't even get me started on all the holiday sweets. Even though this time of year is tough, these things have put a big smile on my face.

.packages from home (by the way, that's Garret's popcorn all the way from Chicago), apple butter, tortilla chips from our favorite Mexican spot, homemade sugar cookies, mac & cheese, Cracker Barrel mix and of course, the September issue of InStyle. Momma's are the best)
This is an older package but hopefully I'll be getting our Christmas package today!

.my old Urban Outfitters slipper socks

.homemade lemon tea

.this face

.and this one too

.new winter coats

.this bible study

.cute kindi kids that keep me laughing through class
.sweet random letters from friends
.random acts of kindness from my boss

.hubs initiating date nights
.ramenjjang. This is a relatively new find and has quickly become my new favorite. Uncooked ramen noodles covered in a type of sweet barbecue sauce. Just trust me on this one.
.emergen-c. This is what's keeping me well this season.
How do you get through the holiday season if you're away from family?

I spent part of my growing up years overseas, and now I think American Christmases are not all they are cracked up to be! My family is still overseas....it's all I can do to keep from crying every time yet another song with the theme of "I'll be home for Christmas" or, generally, "I miss my family so much on Christmas" comes on the radio. It's still a beautiful time, but it's hard to be without family and the traditions you're used to.

i loved my christmas boxes that i would get when i was at college. i really love all of the baking that happens at christmas it is really the only time i do it because im not exactly super kitchen inclined, but when i have people helping its a blast.

Really?! Where did you grow up? I have to admit, being overseas does make my husband and I rethink how we did Christmas back home. Over here there's so much less fuss and stress surrounding the holiday but who knows if that's just because Korea doesn't really celebrate.

I did too! They're so much fun to look forward to! And I won't lie, i was biting my nails waiting for my Christmas package to come this year! I agree, it's so much better to cook in a group : ) Merry Christmas!

Your students are so precious! Your pictures make me miss Korea a whole lot. How do you like the BM James study? I'm doing Esther right now and I think we're going to do James next. Merry Christmas!

I know! I think their cuteness level makes it easier to ignore all wild antics in class. Would you ever come back again? And I am LOVING the James study. I had never study James before and I love how applicable it is in day to day life. And of course Beth does a great job at explaining it and making it even more enjoyable with her hilarious stories. I'll have to check out the Esther study also! Merry Christmas!

Wow, this is a really neat post to me! I am a US traveler and always enjoy a good travel post... but for some reason this one really grabs me because I always think so much about what is going to be new and exciting somewhere, I forget about all the little things you won't be able to get! Even within the US we experience this a teensy bit (a candy I liked in Arizona wasn't available in Wyoming, certain restaurants are only in the midwest/only on the east or west coast, etc.) but I don't always think about that since it's easy to replace with them with another, similar item. I love the glimpse at your favorite-things box though, as well as the things I would and wouldn't expect to see in the States!

Thanks so much for stopping by! There are definitely a lot of things that I miss but after a while I can luckily forget about it. That is until my mom sends us a box full of stuff!
